Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for The Woman on the Bridge by Sheila O’Flanagan.

Winnie O’Leary is trying to live a normal life working in a fabric shop and living with her parents.

When a riot breaks out and the shop Winnie works in us hit by a brick, she is both scared and furious. Joseph Burke walks into the shop in the immediate aftermath of the riot and offers help. There is an instant attraction between the two and before long Joseph

has taken Winnie home to meet his mothers and sisters.

Joseph’s family shelter fugitives and although Joseph wouldn’t ask Winnie to get involved, his mother and sisters want to know that she is committed.

Winnie will be forced to choose between Joseph’s family and her own. It is an emotional and heartbreaking story that I could not put down.

This is a compelling read that sweeps you back one hundred years to Dublin in the 1920s.

The Woman on the Bridge is a beautifully written book with a strong heroine. I loved it and would highly recommend for fans of historical fiction.
