Review of Operation Nassau: A Dolly Mystery by Dorothy Dunnett

Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for Operation Nassau by Dorothy Dunnett.

I love a cosy mystery and this sounded like exactly my kind of book.

Dr B MacRannoch is in the Bahamas with her father who has had to move there for part of the year for his ill health.

Dr MacRannoch has forged her own life in the Bahamas working at the local hospital. However, whilst in New York she is asked to help an ill passenger who turns out to Sir Bart Edgecombe, a British Agent. At first she thinks Sir Bart may have food poisoning, but then realises that he has actually been poisoned with arsenic.

Without meaning to be, she soon becomes swept up in this mystery and drawn into an espionage plot where absolutely nothing is as it seems to be.

I enjoyed this book, which is very witty and took me by surprise in lots of places. This was the first book that I have read by Dorothy Dunnett and I am looking forward to reading the other Dolly mysteries in this series.

It was first published in 1971 and does feel like a different era. The Dolly series of books have recently been republished with these gorgeous covers.
