Today is my stop on the blog tour for The Palace Dressmaker by Jade Beer.

Set between the late 1980s, 1997 and 2018, the book follows Meredith, a dressmaker, and Jayne who is living in the same apartment building as Meredith in Bath in 2018.

In 1997 in New York, eighty of Princess Diana’s dresses are put up for auction. However, only 79 will sell because number 19 is missing.

When Jayne meets Meredith over twenty years later, she is shocked at the disarray and mess the Meredith is living in. Meredith herself doesn’t seem to notice and only talks about finding William. Going through her apartment Jayne finds, among the mess, a beautiful dress and what looks like a timeline of fashion events and dressmaking.

Who is William, why is he not here and what has happened to Meredith?

Jayne sets out to help Meredith and find out about her life and the connection with the beautiful dresses.

This is a beautifully written book and a heartbreaking, but wonderful story. It is full of mystery and glamour at the heart of royal circles.

I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
