Review of Gavin and the Bodysnatchers by Michael A. Duffy

I am really excited to be taking part in the blog tour for Gavin and the Bodysnatchers by Michael A. Duffy today.

Gavin and the Bodysnatchers is set in Drabbleton, a town that has seen better days. When we first meet Gavin his life is not going too well, the joke shop that he runs is on its last legs and is about to be repossessed and his marriage is falling apart. Marie, his long-suffering wife, has had just about enough of his joke shop pranks and has left him for a local footballer.

Then Bryce Brimstone, the latest generation of the Brimstone dynasty who had led Drabbleton in its heyday as a buzzing industrial town returns to the factory that his family built and wants to put the town on the map again. This sounds great and Gavin soon finds a job there. However, it doesn’t take long to find out that Bryce is a somewhat cruel and sinister character and starts to make a lot of enemies very quickly.

I really loved the range of characters that we meet and Gavin is someone that you can’t help feeling that is sometimes just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is a fast paced and witty read and there are a lot of surprises in store for the reader. It is funny, but with a dark and gruesome side too – there were some moments where I wanted to shout ‘No don’t do it’ and others that were laugh out loud.

This book is slightly different to my usual read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking out for what the author writes next.

Ad/PR: I received a digital copy of this book from the book tour organiser.
