I love The Nutcracker, so I had a copy of Midnight in
Everwood on pre-order as soon as I heard about it.
Marietta Stelle dreams of becoming a ballerina, but society,
and her parents, dictate that as soon as Christmas is over, she must marry and
stop dancing. However, the arrival of the mysterious toymaker Mr Drosselmeier
brings mystery and magic to Mariette’s life.
Drosselmeier agrees to make a theatrical backdrop for
Mariette’s performance, but little does she know what this will entail. As the
clock strikes midnight, Mariette finds herself transported to another world. It
is a world that glistens and looks perfect on the outside, but once she has
seen past the ornate beauty and the vast amount of sugar confections, Mariette
realises that she is trapped in a dangerously magical world with an ice palace
and a very dangerous King at its heart. This is Everwood and Mariette must find
a way to get home before it is too late.
Midnight in Everwood is enchanting from the very first page.
It will sweep you away into a dazzling world of sugar palaces, hot chocolate rivers
and a beauty that can be deadly as behind this sugar coated edifice lies a very
dark world.
Mariette is a great character and she matures so much as the
book develops.
This is a beautifully written novel that I did not want to
put down.
This cover is so beautiful!
