Review of The Tunnel of Mirrors by Ferne Arfin

Today is my stop on the Tunnel of Mirrors blog tour.

Rachel is the youngest of six children in a Jewish family who live on the Lower East side. Whilst across the Atlantic in Ireland Ciaran lives in a close-knit Catholic community on an island off the coast of Ulster.

Rachel’s craving for independence from her controlling father leads her into a marriage of convenience. Whilst, on the other side of the world Ciaran is caught up in the Irish civil war.

When their paths cross on the docks of Lower Manhattan in 1928 both of their lives will change forever.

The Tunnel of Mirrors takes you from New York City to the small Irish towns of Antrim, Tyrone, Sligo and Donegal. The description of the setting is so vividly described that you feel like you are actually there with the characters complete with all of the sights, sounds and smells.

This is such a lovely and beautifully written book. I loved the way in which the different folklores are interwoven in the story, it gives it a really magical feel. The characters are brought to life so well that you feel like you know them.

I loved this book and would definitely like to read more from this author. I also really liked the cover – I thought that the colours lend to that other worldly feel.

5 stars.

I received a digital copy of this book as part of the Random Things blog tour.
