I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for The Silk Pavilion today. I received a copy of this book as part of the
tour.
The Silk Pavilion is set in the small Spanish town of Deia
where a young English woman called Lucy has travelled to interview Miguel, an
author. When she meets the author, she is captivated by both him and the
beautiful Villa Rosa and the two begin a passionate love affair.
It soon becomes apparent that he is a controlling person and
there are many stories to be told. As Lucy delves deeper into the past, she is
also confronted by her own past. At the same time, the Villa Rosa itself seems
to be concealing something and Lucy is determined to find out what the strange
noises are.
This is a very gripping and reads like a gothic thriller in
parts – it reminded me a lot of Rebecca, especially in the way that the novel
begins.
It’s compelling and I didn’t want to put it down. At times
it feels like both Miguel and the Villa Rosa are doing everything in their
power to keep her there.
This is a beautifully written book that is poetic to read. I
am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
