Review of The Gone and the Forgotten by Clare Whitfield

Today is my stop on the Random Thigs blog tour for The Gone and the Forgotten by Clare Whitfield. I received a copy of this book as part of the blog tour.

In the summer of 1993, sixteen year old Prue’s mum is hospitalised after a suicide attempt, she goes to stay with her Aunt Ruth and Uncle Archie on the tiny, remote Island of Noost in the Shetland Isles.

Although, reluctant to go Prue hopes that her Aunt may help her piece together some parts of her life that are missing – including the identity of her father.

As Prue begins to settle into the strange house, she learns that her Uncle was a suspect in the case of a missing girl over twenty years earlier. As she gets to know him she starts to hear different views on the case, but is he really innocent?

Prue begins to learn that the truth isn’t always what it seems or what she would like it to be.

This is a novel full of dark secrets and with a mystery at the very heart. It is beautifully written and had me hooked from the very first page.

I really enjoyed this book, it is dark and haunting and there is a real gothic novel feel about it, especially when it comes to the description of the house. I would describe this as part psychological thriller and part mystery gothic novel and I highly recommend it.
