Review of The Simple Truth by James Buckler

Are you ready for a roller-coaster woosh through the heights of the Legal profession, Russian oligarchs, ordinary Londoners and murder? Then this is a story for you.

Lewis Miller is a high achieving young apprentice lawyer in a prestigious London law firm who is dissatisfied with his present progress. He has high aspirations...that is, until he is sent on a simple errand by his Head of Chambers. He is to deliver a gagging order (DNA) and cheque to a family. This does not bring about the desired result as it stems from the death of a young climate activist Maria.

Her mother says she was murdered but the police and everyone else believe that she committed suicide out in the Coldharbour Marshes, a local nature reserve she is trying to protect from development.

Lewis Miller is not convinced either way but decides to investigate the circumstances of Maria`s demise. As he digs deeper and uncovers more deceit, more deaths occur. What is the simple truth of the matter?

His role is shadowed by Maria`s profligate brother`s illegitimate actions which coincide with the people under Lewis`s scrutiny.

The resulting climax follows many twists and turns and is, frankly, shocking!

Just the sort of book you want to be curled up with on a miserable cold day next to a roaring fire.
