Review of The Misadventures of Margaret Finch by Claire McGlasson

Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for The Misadventures of Margaret Finch by Claire McGlasson.

It’s 1938 and Miss Margaret Finch is working in Blackpool on an undercover operation. It relies on her powers of observation and she is noting every detail and working very hard.

When her part unexpectedly crosses with Harold Davidson, also known as the disgraced Rector of Stiffkey, who is occupying many national headlines she sets out to find out if the rumours about him are really true.

Set against a seaside backdrop, there is an innocence and vulnerability to Margaret but at the same time you feel like she has secrets too.

I found this a fascinating novel and you feel the mood of people on the edge of war as you read it.

There are also some very funny moments and Margaret’s voice shines through. I laughed out loud at a particular incident involving too many whisky and ginger ales!

I really enjoyed this and I think the author did an excellent job of setting the scene. You can almost smell the salty sea air as you read this book.

Thank you to Random Things for including us on the tour. You can follow the other stops on the tour below:
