Survivalists/ preppers – those who are prepared for anything the world can throw at them. They have water, food, weapons, underground shelters, medication, money and, in this case, a farm - Rose Farm, situated on the outskirts of a very small town in Sweden. They are totally dependent on one another and must have strong trust, like a pack of wolves who are docile on the surface but will hunt, defend themselves and kill those who threaten them. The Alpha leader of this particular group, Abraham, keeps himself hidden in Rose Manor, composing music.

Problem – what happens when a young girl from the town who is a casual worker in their public café is found dead on the edge of their territory? The police are not welcome as they are seen as a threat to the group`s secrecy. No-one knows the full extent of the group`s preparedness and they want to keep it that way, hence are very wary of strangers.

Enter our fearless reporter Tuva Woodyson. Tuva is the only person who can befriend the group and win their confidence under the guise of a story to help determine who is responsible for the death of Elsa Nyberg.

Seemingly successful and keeping her police confidant Thord informed of her initial progress, Tuva manages to elicit a wealth of information by devious means! However, the tables suddenly turn. Just as she is beginning to have some sympathy with the lifestyle of her new friends, Tuva finds herself in danger.

Beautifully tense with many unseen twists and a fantastically brooding atmosphere, this book will keep the reader engrossed. All Will Dean`s characters come to life Tuva Woodyson the largest of them all. Terrific read and a fitting follow up in the Tuva Woodyson series.

Scandi Noir at it`s best!

5 Stars.
