Today is our stop on the Random Things blog tour for The Spy Coast by Tess Gerritsen.

A sleepy little town called Purity in Maine where you are self-sufficient and far away from the intrigue and secrets which have consumed your working life and where you can retire in peace and anonymity. This is what Maggie Bird hoped for when she was invited to join her erstwhile colleagues Declan, Ben, Ingrid and Lloyd in their seaside Utopia and settled in. No-one in the town knows about their past careers – they are just normal, quiet retirees. Not even their previous employer knows where they are.

That is, until a young woman`s dead body appears on Maggie`s driveway and the four of them (Maggie`s Book Club, should anyone ask) are once again reluctantly pressed into serving their country.

Each has not lost their espionage skills. Maggie, with the help of the others, must delve into events surrounding a past failed mission, starting with who killed Maggie`s unwelcome deceased visitor. Each employs their unique skills to uncover the truth, no matter how painful the outcome may be or how far Maggie, must travel to revisit the scenes. One thing is certain, even without the dogged investigation of the local Chief of Police, young and intelligent Jo Thibaudeau, who has suspicions of her own, retirement in Purity will never be quite the same again.

A breathtaking read superbly plotted and full of heartbreak, happiness and excitement. I would highly recommend this book to any fan of crime/spy novels.

About the Author

With 40 million copies+ of her books sold worldwide, Tess is a much loved, internationally bestselling author. LISTEN TO ME, her last thriller was a Sunday Times top 10 bestseller.

As a physician, Tess brings to her novels her first-hand knowledge of emergency and autopsy rooms. Her thrillers starring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles inspired the hit TV series Rizzoli & Isles. But Tess's interests span far more than medicine and crime. As an anthropology student at Stanford University, she catalogued centuries-old human remains, and she continues to travel the world, driven by her fascination with ancient cultures and bizarre natural phenomena.
