Review of Holmes, Marple and Poe by James Patterson & Brian Sitts

The year is 2023 and three angels of justice swoop onto the stage of Private Investigations in New York City. They are named after the great sleuths of literature – Holmes, Marple and Poe and have many shared characteristics with their namesakes. They are obviously rich, intelligent and have good connections in high places but have no background data on any search engine.

First they must find a base from which to carry out their operations – where else more suitable than a disused bakery which boasts the unsolved murder of a young girl who worked there decades ago? The building is immediately bought and transformed into both an office and living accommodation for the trio.

A year later, they are accruing criminal transgressions unsolvable by the NYPD. They befriend Lieutenant Helene Grey after she approaches them indirectly for help with an insolvable art theft. A kidnapping happens. Well-known art dealers are found not to be what they are. Car chases, shootings, a murder, a haunting, love interests....all will eventually be unravelled by the three investigators.

Patterson and Sitts have concocted a delightfully light-hearted and enjoyable crime novel which will appeal to all readers. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the reader is left perplexed – who really are Holmes, Marple and Poe?
