Review of The Wartime Book Club by Kate Thompson

Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for The Wartime Book Club by Kate Thompson.

I loved Kate Thompson’s last book The Little Wartime Library and have been looking forward to reading her latest. The Wartime Book Club is set on Jersey in 1943.

Grace La Mottee is the librarian on the island and her job is vital, not just for the well-being of locals, but for the survival of some of them too.

When Grace is ordered to destroy any banned books, she rebels and instead secrets them away. It’s a dangerous game and the stakes get even higher when she joins forces with her best friend Bea.

They form a book club, but soon it is more than just books they are delivering around the island as they battle to keep those they know safe.

Based on true events, I was completely absorbed in this book and couldn’t put it down. It’s a beautifully written book about secrets and survival in the heart of the occupation.

Highly recommended for fans of WWII fiction.
