Today is my stop on the blog tour for Small Bomb at Dimperley by Lissa Evans.

It’s 1945 and the war has just finished. Life is starting to return to normal, but life Dimperley will never be the way it once was.

Dimperley is a large stately home lived in by the Vere-Thissett family. Twenty three year old Valentine Vere-Thissett was until recently a corporal in the army, but is now returning home as Sir Valentine after the death of his elder brother.

Now responsible for the house and estate, Valentine does not know how they will clear the debts and keep up with maintenance on the dilapidated house. Zena Baxter was evacuated to the house and it’s the only place to her that has ever really felt like home. Zebra can’t bear the thought of leaving, but she has a secret that is threatening to bubble to the surface.

Will Dimperley survive or be consigned to history like many of the old houses?

I enjoyed this book so much and felt invested in all of the characters and Dimperley itself.

It was interesting to read a book set in the immediate post war period. There are serious issues covered, but also some very funny parts too. I ended up feeling like Dimperley itself was a character.

This is the first book that I have read by Lissa Evans and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
