Review of Only May by Carol Lovekin

I am thrilled to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for Only May today. I received a copy of this book as part of the blog tour.

The book begins on May’s seventeenth birthday and the air is heavy with something that May does not yet understand.

May has a gift, which is that she can see straight through people when they are lying – it’ something in their eyes and demeanour, she just knows.

Therefore, when her mother and Aunt appear evasive, she realises that they are hiding something from her and she is determined to find out what it is. However, when May starts to look into her own history it threatens to bring everything that her mother and Aunt have constructed out into the open.

Only May is a haunting book that is full of secrets and suspense. It is beautifully written and I felt like I knew May by the end of the novel.

This is the first book that I have read by Carol Lovekin and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely like to read more by this author.
