Review of The Peacock House by Kate Glanville

I am thrilled to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for The Peacock House today. I received a copy of this book as part of the blog tour.

In 1943, Evelyn is living with her mother-in-law at their ancestral home Vaughan Court in North Wales. Orphaned at sixteen years old, she is stuck in a loveless marriage and feels trapped in the huge house with her every movement watched by her controlling mother-in-law.

Then, right in the middle of the Second World War, a freak accident changes her life for ever and nothing will ever be the same again.

The book jumps to 2016, when Bethan, a grand daughter of one of the previous servants at Vaughan Hall travels there to interview Evelyn who went on to become a famous Author. As Bethan begins to learn more about Evelyn’s life, she realise that it is filled with secrets and that there are many ghosts at Vaughan Court who are yet to be laid to rest.

This is a book filled with secrets, heartbreak, hope and love. With a backdrop of the second world war, I was swept away by this moving story and did not want to put it down. I also loved the description of the North Wales countryside.

I loved the dual timeline of the book, as you really feel like you get to know both Evelyn and Beth very well.

I highly recommend this book for fans of historical fiction and romance.
