I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for Brazen by Julia Haart today. I received a copy of this book as part of
the tour.
I love reading biographies and memoirs, so I jumped at the
chance to read Brazen.
It’s an inspiring
memoir that tells the life of Julia Haart who grew up in an ultra-orthodox Jewish
community, married at 19 years old, raised four children and eventually became
the successful designer and CEO that she is today.
Every aspect of Haart’s life was controlled as she was
growing up – from what she wore and who she could be friends with. She continued
with this in her own marriage and it was only when her daughter began to
question things that she decided to make a change and ensure that her own
daughters had a different upbringing.
In order to do this, Haart had to create a double life in
order to make a freedom fund. Finally, at the age of 42, she was able to leave.
Wow! This is an amazing book that takes you on such an incredible
journey. It was fascinating to learn about the early parts of Haart’s life
through her education and marriage at only nineteen.
I have not yet seen the Netflix show An Unorthodox Life,
so I wasn’t actually aware of Haart’s background. However, I found this book to
be unputdownable and a real eye opener.
I hope that there will be a second instalment!
