Review of Fish Swimming in Dappled Sunlight by Riku Onda

I am thrilled to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for Fish Swimming in Dappled Sunlight. I received a copy of this book as part of the blog tour.

Fish Swimming in Dappled Sunlight is set in Tokyo and follows a single night where Aki and Hiro have met up in the apartment they shared until recently. Their relationship has fallen apart after a mountain trekking holiday where their guide mysteriously disappeared and fell to his death.

They each believe the other to be the murderer and the evening is filled with flashbacks running through their lives up to the fateful day, but who really is the murderer and why did they do it?

I really enjoyed the way in which you get to see both sides of the story and get into the characters’ lives. Despite taking place over just one night in Tokyo, but the descriptions are so vivid and the environment so intense that you feel like you have known the characters for years,

There are a lot of twists in this book that I did not see coming and they are delivered in a somewhat subtle, manner of fact way, which made it even more shocking for me.

This is the first book that I have read by Riku Onda and I loved it. I will be ordering a copy of the Aosawa Murders to read straight away.

I highly recommend this, especially if you enjoy a gripping psychological thriller.
