I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for Still Water today. I received a copy of this book as part of the blog
tour.
Jane Douglas has returned to the Shetland Islands and feels
like she has moved on and escaped her childhood past. There are still some
lingering remains like the old crofters cottage that she both refuses to sell
and refuses to live in, choosing a caravan instead. However, despite this she
does feel more settled and like she is moving on.
Then, out of the blue, the police contact her to say that a
body has been found in an old quarry and it is presumed to be her mother who
went missing years ago after her baby brother died.
Now, everything that Jane has been running from, and the
fear that she has inherited her mothers demons, comes flooding back.
Still Water is an amazing read. I was desperate to find out
what would happen with Jane and did not want to put this book down. There are extremely
serious issues tackled here in a sensitive way and the characters and setting
of the Shetland Islands are vividly brought to life.
This book is so beautifully written, I just felt so absorbed
within the story. I can’t wait to read this author’s next book.
