Review of Local Gone Missing by Fiona Barton

I am thrilled to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for Local and Missing today. I received a copy of the book as part of the tour.

Local Gone Missing is Fiona Barton’s fourth book and it follows Detective Elise King who has been on sick leave for a while and is wondering if she really wants to return. She lives in the small seaside town of Ebbing, where the book is set, and has got into the habit of people watching – seeing the locals who hate change, the city dwellers who come for the weekend ad those turning old bungalows into luxury villas.

While Elise likes to guess what is going on in everyone’s lives, Dee her cleaner usually knows, but will never tell.

However, things change when a newcomer decides to out on a music festival where two teenagers end up in hospital and a man goes missing. The detective in Elise starts looking for clues, she thinks it will be easy to find them since Ebbing is a small town, but she has underestimated how deep some of the connections are.

I loved this book – it’s full of suspense and the short chapters kept me up reading all night – I literally couldn’t put this down.

The book jumps back to before the event, so you get to know the characters before everything happens. I really liked this aspect – especially learning about Charlie.

If you are a fan of thrillers you will love this book!
