Review of Parklife by Lucy Nichol

I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for Park Life today. I received a digital copy of this book as part of the blog tour.

It’s 1996 and in a short space of time Emma finds herself dumped by her boyfriend and sacked from her job after a few too many late nights at the pub. Emma finds that the only way that she can get through the day is with a drink and things soon start to get out of hand.

Dave is Emma’s long suffering best friend and is determined to get her on the right path, so when he sees a job advertising a position at the local ice cream hut, he suggests that Emma takes it.

Emma does take the job and every day she gives a free 99 ice cream to a lonely old man. It makes her realise that life could be worse. The only things is that the job hasn’t solved Emma’s problems and with the way that she has acted, who will be there to help her when she needs them next?

I enjoyed reading this book and following Emma and Dave. It is a powerful story and is emotional in parts. The author pulls you right into the heart of the novel, so that you feel like you are there with the characters. This book is the follow up to the Twenty-Seven Club, but also reads well as a standalone book.

This is the first book that I have read by Lucy Nichol, but I will definitely be looking out for more from this author.
