I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for Tasting Sunlight today. I received a copy of this book as part of the
blog tour.
Sally is a teenager who has run away from a clinic where she
is being treated for anorexia. She is angry about everything and with everyone.
When she comes across a farmer called Liss whose tractor has got stuck, she
helps her and is offered a place to stay for the night.
Liss is in her forties and lives alone in a small village,
running the farm single handed with barely any contact with the outside world.
Sally realises straight away that Liss is different from all
of the overpowering adults that she has known recently and her one-night stay
stretches into weeks.
As Sally starts to find pleasure in working on the land, harvesting
potatoes and helping with the livestock, the two women begin a friendship that
will allow them to embrace their difficult pasts.
However, there is also a mystery at the heart of this book, why
do the villagers seem wary of Liss, who is the mystery man and how long can
Sally stay on the run for?
This is such an amazing and powerful book to read. It is a
journey of an unlikely friendship between two women brought together by chance
that is beautifully written.
This is a fantastic debut novel and I cannot wait to read
this author’s next book.
