I am thrilled to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for Blue Hour today. I received a copy of this book as part of the tour.
As everyone else is asleep Eleanor takes her young daughter,
puts her in car and starts to drive away. She thinks of somewhere to be safe
and her thoughts instantly go to the Blue Mountain.
As she drives away, her thoughts go back to memories of her
childhood, of growing up with her parents – her father deeply affected after serving
in the second World War and her mother desperately trying to portray a perfect
family life.
I loved the structure of this book, by going back to the
past you get an idea of how everything has led up to the situation that Eleanor
is in now.
This is such a beautifully written book that will stay with
you long after reading it. Blue Hour covers sensitive topics including grief,
mental health, impact of returning home from war and how the lives of women can
be shaped by the opportunities that are available to them.
Blue Hour is a moving and powerful novel that I found almost
hypnotic to read – I didn’t want to out it down.
