Review of The Yellow Kitchen by Margaux Vialleron

I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for The Yellow Kitchen today. I received a copy of this book as part of the tour.

It’s London in 2019 and Claude, Sophie and Giulia meet up in the little yellow kitchen to discuss their lives. Claude loves to cook and dreams of opening her own bakery, Sophie is career and goal driven and Italian Giulia is fascinated by politics. It’s Brexit that is dominating their topic of conversation, interspersed by remarks on the delicious meals that Claude creates for them.

Claude and Sophie have known each other since their school days and they met Guilia later on,  but all three clicked and became firm friends. A trip to Lisbon changes everything though when Sophie and Claude realise that they are more than just friends and a heated night follows.

This is a wonderful book that takes you on a journey of food, friendship and love. I read this whilst drinking a glass of red wine and dreaming that I could cook like Claude.

The Yellow Kitchen explores female friendship and society. I love the way in which it is interspersed with cooking and sourcing ingredients. I also liked the structure – it is divided by the seasons and by each character, so you feel like you get to know Claude, Sophie and Giulia really well.

I cannot wait to read Margaux Vialleron’s next book.
