I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for The Draw of the Sea today. I received a copy of this book as part of
the tour.
The Draw of the Sea is a fascinating book that looks at the
how the sea has shaped our lives. Each chapter is a different topic beginning
with beachcombing in Cornwall. It goes on to look at Island fishing and the
lives of artists, free divers, boatbuilders, surfers, swimmers and artists.
The chapter on free divers was probably my favourite, it was
amazing to read how people prepared their bodies to reach enormous depths in the
water.
This is a beautifully written book that examines the role of
the ocean in our lives. It is divided into thirteen chapters and provides a
fascinating account that takes you from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to
Norway.
I have always been fascinated by the sea and love visiting
the beach, although I don’t get to go often enough. I really enjoyed reading
this book and feel like I have learnt a lot from it.
I also love this beautiful cover!
