I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog
tour for Lies at her Door today. I
received a copy of this book as part of the blog tour.
It’s December 2019 and the residents of the exclusive
Jackson Crescent in Bristol are preparing for the annual carol concert in the
communal gardens. There is a sudden rumbling and a sinkhole appears near to number
13, home to the Freeman family. As the dust clears, it becomes clear that a
skeleton is at the bottom of the sinkhole, but who is it and how long have they
been there?
Lucy Freeman lives at number 13 with her father Sebastien
and mother Rebecca. Her brother is a famous musician and she has always lived
in his shadow, never quite meeting her parents expectations. Now, she is acting
as her mother’s full-time carer, as Rebecca has parkinsons and can no longer
even speak.
When the bones are identified as that of Jason Jardine, a
bandmate of Dan Freeman’s who has been missing for twenty years, everyone is
shocked. Things take a turn for the worse for Lucy when the police suspect her
of being the murderer. Lucy is determined to prove her innocence and turns to
her terminally ill parents’ diary in order to find vindication.
The truth, however, is sometimes best kept hidden and what
effect will digging through old diaries have on Lucy and her family?
This is a gripping novel that is full of twists. It was the
perfect combination of mystery and surprise that also highlighted issues
including the cruel reality of living with Parkinsons disease.
Lies at Her Door is a novel full of secrets, deception and
dysfunctional families. I recommend this for fans of psychological thrillers
and I can’t wait to read more books by this author.
