Review of The Joy of Better Cooking by Alice Zazlavsky

I am delighted to be taking part in the Random Things blog tour for The Joy of Better Cooking by Alice Zaslavsky today. I received a copy of this book as part of the tour.

The Joy of Better Cooking contains over 70 recipes. It starts with snacks and then goes on to easy week day meals, a fantastic section on gluts, windfalls and leftovers, weekend entertaining and finally my favourite chapter ‘Seriously Good Sweeties’.

The avocado section was a game changer for me, as I eat a lot of avocado but hadn’t really thought about making toppings for them as a snack. I have tried the ideas in this book and will having these as my go to snack from now on.

I loved that each recipe has a ‘sub’, I always want to follow a recipe exactly and am sometime put off if I don’t have the exact ingredients. In this book, the sun is something you could use in place and I thought this was a great feature.

One of my favourite cakes is lemon cake, so I knew I had to try the lemon and poppy seed ant cake. It was an easy recipe to follow and tasted great. I am planning to try the grate apple and raspberry crumble cake next with the apples from my garden.

This is a fantastic book filled with hints, tips and delicious recipes. I highly recommend it.
