This is the story of a little baby banjolele that was given
to Valerie June. It is a unique musical instrument and at the start of the book,
it dreams that its musical talents will be heard throughout the world.
However, there is a problem as the little banjolele cannot
make it through a whole song. Her friends laugh at her saying this is just a
toy not an instrument. As time goes by, the banjolele is put to one side and
becomes a forgotten ornament gathering dust in the corner of a room.
Then, little Valerie hears a strange sound in the night, a
musical sound that wants to be heard. When she investigates she re-discovers
the banjolele and its dream to sing. Valerie calls the banjolele Baby and the
two go on to find their voice together.
This book is about following your dreams and never giving
up. I love the text and read it with my children who loved this story and my
daughter really enjoyed learning about the proverbs to inspire at the end of
the book.
It is as beautiful on
the inside as it is on the outside.
I highly recommend this lovely read. It would make a perfect
Christmas present.
