Review of The Air Raid Book Club by Annie Lyons

Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for The Air Raid Book Club by Annie Lyons.

It’s 1938 and London Bookseller Gertie Bingham is devastated by the loss of her beloved husband Harry. Gertie and Harry ran a book shop together and with Harry gone Gertie wants to sell up and move to the coast.

However, she is persuaded to take in a young Jewish refugee who has come to England and welcomes fifteen year old Hedy Fischer into her home.

Despite initially feeling unable to give much to Hedy, the two soon begin to bond over books and their love of dogs. When the blitz begins they realise that working together will bring hope to the whole community around them and that books have the power to bring people together.

This is a beautifully written story about love, loss and hope in the darkest of times. I love WWII fiction and this book swept me away.

I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys historical and WWII fiction.

I also love this cover with the pink and blue colours.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
