I was excited to receive a copy of this book to review, which was a bestseller in France.
My Husband is the story of a woman’s obsession with her husband. This is a couple who seem to have a perfect life. They have two children, a beautiful home, successful careers and have been married for fifteen years.
However, the wife is completely obsessed with her husband and analyses every detail and every comment he makes. She is determined to have a perfect relationship and will obsess over every detail. Everything must look effortless even though it is anything but.
You realise that she lacks confidence and tries to compensate for not having the same upbringing as her husband. The problem is she is never sure if he loves her as much, she just wants a sign. Sometimes it feels like she gets one and is happy, but then he says something that makes it feel like nothing.
Then, she feels the need to test him and do something to set a trap for him. Until one day her actions go too far.
This is a story that I couldn’t put down. It is twisted and full of suspense
and there is a hint of superstition as she equates luck or good things to particular days or colours. As the wife tries to make the husband show his love, you can’t help wondering how much she truly loves him.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but wow, the epilogue! I did not see this coming.
I can’t wait to read more by this author.
