Review of Roman Nights by Dorothy Dunnett

Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for Roman Nights by Dorothy Dunnett.

I read Operation Nassau from the Dolly Mystery books a couple of months ago and was keen to read more books in this series.

Ruth Russell is in Rome having a great time until her lover, the top fashion photographer Charles Digham has his camera stolen. If that wasn’t shocking enough, the third ends up as a headless corpse at the zoo park.

Ruth can’t believe she is tangled up in this. Then we are reunited with Johnson Johnson, whom we met in the previous book. Johnson is in Rome to paint a portrait of the Pope, but decides to take on the mystery and is sure he can solve it.

As Ruth and Johnson join together they start to uncover a mystery that is far darker than some stolen photos from a fashion shoot.

This was first published in 1973 and you can feel the historical context when you read the book.

I really enjoyed this book and loved the descriptions of locations in Rome, which is one of my favourite settings for a book.

Thank you to Random Things Tours for including me on the tour. Check out the banner below to follow the other stops on the tour.
