Today is my stop on the Random Things blog tour for You’d Look Better As a Ghost by Joanna Wallace.
Claire is suffering from grief after her has died from a lengthy battle with dementia. After the funeral she meets Lucas in a bar. To him it appears like a chance meeting, but actually a mistyped email has led him to a deadly night with a crazed serial killer.
However, for the first time Claire has let her guard down and someone has noticed something odd about her. Now they want to make a deal in order to keep quiet, but it’s not a great idea to get involved with a serial killer…
This book is so shocking, but also full of very funny moments. Some of the things Claire says or thinks are hilarious and then I had to remind myself that she is the serial killer!
Also, I wondered how I would find reading a book that is so deeply about grief and bereavement groups and the subject is tackled in depth. It does highlight the terrible effects of dementia and also what it’s like for the friends and family left behind.
A book quite unlike anything I’ve read before. A fantastic debut.
