Today is my stop on the blog tour for Sisters Under the Rising Sun by Heather Morris.

Last year, I took part in the audio book Listenalong to Three Sisters by Heather Morris and I became so absorbed in this book that o knew I wanted to read more from this author.

Based on a true story, this is a harrowing tale of life spent in the terrible Second World War concentration camps. However, it shines a light on the good in people and how hope and belief got them through these terrible days.

It’s 1942 and as Singapore falls, Norah and John make the heartbreaking decision to send their daughter Sally away on a ship. They hope to follow separately and board the doomed HMS Vyner Brooke. The ship manages to leave Singapore, but is bombed and the survivors are forced into the water.

They are captured on a remote island and the men and women are separated. Norah and her sister Ena stay together and become friends with a group of Australian nurses.

Norah and Nesta who is one of the nurses soon join forces to keep up morale, especially organising concerts where Norah and Ena sing. This is a story of courage and hope, love and loss.

WWII fiction is one of my favourite genres and whilst I have read a few books set in the East, most of the ones I have read have focused more on the war in Europe. This is a beautifully written book and I could not put it down.

I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys WWII fiction.
