I love travel writing and Iceland is on my wishlist of places to visit in the next couple of years, so I was very intrigued by this book. Plus the title made me chuckle.
Emma Strandberg has written an account of spending six months in Iceland in wintertime. It begins with her childhood and link to Iceland through her mother’s time spent there in 1963.
Then it covers her journey to Iceland on ferries and driving. I found this so interesting as I prefer travelling by road or boat when I can.
Once she arrives alone, she is suddenly hit with the fact that she is alone in a very remote place. Was this a crazy idea?
I found I couldn’t stop reading this book. The writing is gripping and fun and the reality of the author’s journey and the beauty of Iceland itself is vividly brought to life.
The author details her journeys exploring Iceland in her car and even solo camping.
I highly recommend this book, especially for fans of travel writing and anyone who wants to know more about Iceland.
